Nursing services at Naas General Hospital (NGH) aim to deliver quality care. We respond to patient/client need based on evidence, research and best practice. Nursing develops services in response to changing local need under local and national policy. We provide a range of specialist nursing services. Part of this is developing new Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) posts.
Nurses have several education opportunities. They must complete mandatory training, and they can also attend optional sessions. Staff survey results, manager feedback, and advice from the nursing development team help to plan our training. As well as requests from individual nurses.
Access to Post Graduate education is available through our Post Graduate links with Trinity College Dublin. Post Graduate courses in Intensive Care Nursing are available in our hospital.
We encourage Post Graduate education and continuing education.
NGH is an approved site for the Adaptation of Overseas Nurses by An Bord Altranais (The Nursing Board).
We are a designated as a Nurse Training Hospital in partnership with Trinity College Dublin. This means that NGH is the clinical base and parent hospital for the four year Bachelor in Science General Nursing programme.
As part of the undergraduate course, nursing students will have clinical placements. These placements take place in various healthcare settings across Kildare and West Wicklow. This variation provides a broad experience for any nursing student.

Nursing students graduate from Trinity College and Naas General Hospital as registered general nurses. This partnership allows nursing students to train locally.

We help develop policies, safety procedures, and clinical guidelines to meet accreditation standards. Nursing participates in the accreditation process. We encourage our nurses to bring new ideas forward, using research and best practices to improve patient care.
Nursing services are available in all ward areas as well as in specialised departments, including:
