This nursing service was set up by the National Cancer Control Programme in 2020. It provides patients & their families with direct access to a support telephone nursing service for any queries in relation to side-effects from their cancer treatment. The aim of the role is to manage these side-effects at home where possible & avoid a hospital admission.
The role of the Oncology nurse co-ordinator in Naas General Hospital is to ensure that all the steps of the patient’s pathway from investigation, to diagnosis, to treatment, to follow up care is managed in a timely, safe and efficient way.
There is continual communication between the co-ordinator and other hospitals involved in the management of our patients to ensure a high standard of care.
