Prepare for Your Hospital Stay

What to Bring

  • Admission letter
  • If you are a medical card holder or have private medical insurance (such as VHI, Laya Healthcare, Irish Life Health, Garda Medical Aid etc.) Please bring all relevant information i.e. Medical Card, Expiry Date.
  • Up to date list of medications and cards e.g. Warfarin, steroid allergy, blood sugar records
  • Clothing: night clothes, dressing gown, underwear and comfortable non-slip footwear
  • Toiletries: Hand towel, face cloth, toothpaste etc. Men: please bring in your own shaving equipment

Patient's Property

The hospital does not accept responsibility for loss, theft or damage to personal belongings not handed over for safekeeping.

Please note that you are responsible for your own personal property and clothing.

Please do not bring any valuables such as jewellery, large sums of money or pension/savings books. Where this is unavoidable, please contact the Ward Manager who will arrange for their safekeeping.

Visiting Information

A maximum of 2 people can visit a patient at any one time for a duration of 30 minutes.

Visiting times are between:

2:00pm - 4:00pm

6:30pm - 8:30pm

Visitors' Please

  • Wash hands with soap or water/alcohol gel on entering/leaving and before/after patient contact
  • Consider the needs of other patients’ and staff
  • Be polite and comply with any request to leave while we facilitate care
  • Observe confidentiality – you may see/hear things of a private and confidential nature
  • Always enter and exit the hospital through the main entrance doors or as specified
  • Keep mobile phones/electronic devices on silent and leave ward to take /receive calls
  • Do not touch patient’s dressings, drips, catheters, oxygen tubing etc.
  • Do not to sit/lie on patients beds/trolleys
  • Do not bring in hot drinks/food onto wards
  • Do not access unauthorised areas, e.g. ward kitchens
  • Help keep our hospital clean and inform staff of any cleaning concerns
  • Be responsible for the safety and security of your belongings
  • Follow hospital car parking regulations
  • Do not visit if under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs
  • Follow fire safety regulations and if the fire alarm is activated calmly leave the building through the nearest fire exit (do not use the lift)
  • Do not film or take photographs in the hospital or on hospital grounds

Individual wards may need to implement visiting restrictions due to higher levels of infection, patients will be notified when this happens and information screens will be updated to make visitors aware.   This is to protect patients, staff, and the wider community. Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

Do NOT visit if you have respiratory symptoms, sore throat, flu like symptoms, vomiting and/or diarrhoea or any other infections.
