The Coronary care Unit (CCU) is a 6 bedded unit which specialises in cardiology. We also care for other patients who have high dependency needs needs.
The CCU has 5 beds, and an isolation room. The unit admits both male and female patients and is staffed by a team of specially trained nurses and doctors. All members of the multidisciplinary team visit the CCU regularly.
Patients' heart rates, rhythms, and other vital signs are monitored at their bedside. This information is also transmitted to a central monitoring station, where a CCU nurse can observe it 24 hours a day.
The procedure room within the CCU is equipped with state of the art technology designated for specific cardiac procedures, including cardioversions.
Additionally, we have 6 telemetry units that monitor patients throughout the hospital.
As an emergency unit, we accept patients at any time, day or night. While we strive to inform patients and their families about transfers to or from the CCU, this is not always possible.
The average length of stay in the CCU is between 3 to 5 days, after which patients are typically transferred to general medical wards, where the same team of doctors continues their care.
